Throughout the month of November 2023, the Millennium Heights Medical Complex (MHMC) showcased its dedication to people-centered care with a focus on Pressure Ulcer Management Standards. In addition to internal initiatives, MHMC extended its commitment to the community through two informative workshops targeting patients at risk caregivers’ and/or their family members, primary care facilities, hospitals and elderly homes.
Pressure ulcers, commonly known as ‘bed sores’ or ‘pressure sores,’ are injuries to the skin and underlying tissue resulting from prolonged pressure on the skin. While anyone can be susceptible to developing pressure ulcers, certain factors such as reduced mobility, medical conditions affecting blood supply or skin fragility, incontinence, compromised nutrition, cognitive impairment, and acute illness can increase the risk.
The community workshops organized by MHMC served as an essential component of their people-centered care approach to health. The sessions aimed to empower patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers with the knowledge and skills necessary for preventing and managing pressure ulcers effectively.
The initiative aligns seamlessly with MHMC’s ongoing commitment to upholding the highest standards of care, promoting patient safety, and continually enhancing healthcare practices. By incorporating education, training, and evidence-based protocols, MHMC strives to reduce the incidence of pressure ulcers and provide optimal care for patients at risk.
MHMC expresses deep gratitude to its dedicated healthcare professionals and staff whose tireless efforts have been instrumental in upholding these standards and ensuring the well-being of patients under their care.
